Christopher Vaughn Trial: Day 17
◆ Prosecutors rested their case against Christopher Vaughn after calling about 80 witnesses over more than three weeks. Judge Daniel Rozak denied Vaughn’s request for a directed verdict after his attorney made a brief argument that prosecutors didn’t prove their case.
◆ Vaughn called ballistics expert and criminalist Lucien Haag of Arizona to the stand. He complained about the bunching up of Vaughn’s clothing into a single bag at the hospital the day of the shootings. “When hospital folks just stuff things in bags together,” Haag said, “it’s a problem.”
◆ Investigator Michelle Palaro read several emails written by Christopher Vaughn’s wife, including one to her husband in May 2007 about a trip to her doctor. “I told him you had noticed, and I had noticed, a big personality change and anxiety change and that I was feeling lethargic,” Kimberly Vaughn wrote.
◆ THURSDAY: Defense attorneys continue their case.
