Eight people were injured in a CTA bus crash late Monday morning in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A northbound No. 49 Western bus was stopped at an intersection when it was struck from behind by a truck, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said. People aboard the bus requested medical attention.
The accident occurred at East 54th Street and South Western Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said.
Eight people were hospitalized in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries, he said. Four people were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and four to Holy Cross Hospital.
The northbound No. 49 Western CTA bus has been rerouted around the accident, according to the CTA. Southbound buses are not affected.
