One man was killed and another was in critical condition after a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway caused a vehicle to crash into a building, police said.
The shooting happened about 11:40 p.m. in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side as three men in a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee were getting onto the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway at 87th Street, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Steven Tufenkjian said. The shots were apparently fired from another vehicle.
The 25-year-old driver was shot in the head, causing him to lose control and drive off the ramp into a building on Lafayette Avenue, police said. He was dead at the scene.
A front-seat passenger was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a head injury, authorities said.
Authorities were not sure whether that man’s injuries were caused by the gunfire or the crash.
A rear-seat passenger refused medical attention at the scene.
