A west suburban dog owner was cited after his a pit bull terrier bit an 11-month-old girl in the face.

The incident occurred Monday in the 100 block of South Park Boulevard. The 11-month-old, a family member, was apparently on the floor near the dog’s food when the dog attacked her, Glen Ellyn police said.

The family took the girl for medical treatment, then called police to ask for assistance in removing the dog from the home.

Officers contacted DuPage County Animal Control, which took custody of the dog. Officers cited the resident and owner of the dog, Justin Wolter, for failing to obtain a license for the dog and for failing to have the dog inoculated for rabies.

Police had no details on the child’s injuries or condition.
