A vehicle matching the description of one driven by a missing Lowell, Ind., man was discovered Sunday afternoon in a wooded area east of 17100 block of Mount Street in Lowell, with a body in the driver’s seat, police officials said.
Dan Ross, 55, has been missing since June 25. He was last seen dropping his son off at Schrum School in Calumet City at 6:30 a.m. and was driving a 2011 silver Ford Taurus with Indiana license plates 555CEG.
The identity of the person is pending DNA testing, but the cause of death is multiple blunt force trauma, pending further investigation, Lake County sheriff’s police said.
Tracks show the vehicle left Mount Street onto a farm path heading in an easterly direction, the vehicle then left the path and headed into a northeasterly direction through a bean field into a wooded area until it hit a tree.
The case is still under investigation.
Lowell Police Chief John Shelhart said the property owner’s grandson had gone out to check his deer stands, saw the vehicle and called police.
“It was down in a thickly wooded area. It would never have been found until the leaves were off the trees,” Shelhart said.
