Dry weather forces cancellation of some fireworks displays

The recent hot, dry weather has already forced cancellation of several area Independence Day fireworks shows, citing the possible risk of sparking a fire.
The Round Lake Area Park District on Friday postponed its Wednesday fireworks show until Sept. 2 because of drought-like conditions.
Wauconda on Thursday cancelled its Tuesday night fireworks, “due to the severity of the exceptionally dry conditions in the area.”
“Like most people, we were looking forward to a great evening,” Mayor Mark Knigge said in a press release. “However, with the heightened risk of fire danger, life safety is a top priority at this time.”
Wauconda Fire District representatives said there has been an increase in the number of fires in Lake County due to the weather, the village said.
Fireworks planned for Tuesday at Plainfield Central High School have been canceled due to dry conditions, the Plainfield Park District announced Thursday.
The district said it will work to reschedule the display. The Patriotic Picnic portion of the event will continue as planned at 5 p.m. at Plainfield Central, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive.
