Man, 81, charged with shooting another senior in long-standing dispute

A long-standing dispute between two senior citizens led to a shooting this week at a senior apartment building in North Chicago.
James Payne, 81, who lives in the Kukla Towers senior apartments, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and not having a firearm owner’s identification card, Lt. George McCleary said.
He said Payne and another senior apparently had a long-standing disagreement, and on Monday morning the dispute went from a verbal argument to a physical confrontation. Payne then shot the victim, who suffered a stomach wound and a wound in his hand from the small-caliber handgun, which police recovered.
The victim was taken to Vista Medical Center West in Waukegan and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
