Three Northwestern University buildings were evacuated Monday afternoon because of an electrical problem on the north suburban campus.
The problem started in an electrical vault outside the Technological Institute at 2145 Sheridan Rd. in Evanston, according to a university alert.
The Technological Institute, the Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center at 2133 Sheridan, and the Center for Catalysis and Surface Science at 2137 Tech Dr. were all evacuated, the alert said.
Nobody was injured.
About 4:45 p.m., the university said it was safe to return to the three buildings that were evacuated except the “south moat” of the Technological Institute.
Commonwealth Edison and one Evanston Fire Department truck remained on the scene Monday evening while crews continued to work on the problem.
