5 hurt, one critically, in Lake Shore Drive crash

Five people were hurt, one critically, early Monday in a crash downtown on Lake Shore Drive. The crash happened shortly before 12:15 a.m. near East Balbo Avenue and South Lake Shore Drive. A driver heading north on the Drive was turning west onto Balbo when it was struck by southbound vehicle, the police said. That caused it to collide with an ambulance at a stoplight on Balbo, Officer Darryl Baety said. Robbie Mack, 26, who was driving the vehicle making the turn, was cited for failure to yield the right of way, operating a vehicle without insurance and damage to city property.
