Metra Milwaukee District/West Line trains have resumed normal service after a train struck and killed a pedestrian Monday morning in northwest suburban Hanover Park.
Train No. 2208, which originated in Elgin, struck a pedestrian near the Hanover Park station about 6:40 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
A spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death, but could not release the identification of the victim until family members are notified.
All trains were stopped in both directions and three inbound trains behind the train involved in the incident were being delayed, Miller said.
Trains began moving about 7:30 a.m. The No. 2213 departing from Union Station at 10:30 a.m. and the No. 2234 departing from Elgin were running on time, but there could see residual delays, Miller said.
A Hanover Park firefighter said his department responded to the report of a person down on the tracks, but had no further details.
