A south suburban man was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail Saturday for allegedly beating his teenage daughter to death in a Dolton motel while high on drugs.
Larry D. Wood, of Dixmoor, got into an argument over money with the 16-year-old after he brought her and a female companion to the Best Motel & Suites, authorities said.
Wood and his friend were staying in a separate room but video footage showed that the 34-year-old was the only one who went in and out of Gloria Wood’s room before a motel employee found her covered in blood Wednesday morning, assistant Cook County state’s attorney Roseann Scarimbolo said.
Larry Wood and the woman left the motel right after he informed her that he beat the girl unconscious following the fight, Scarimbolo said.
The teenager, who had been choked, suffered a broken jaw and nose and had several fractures to her skull and vertebrae, authorities said. She died from blunt force trauma. A weapon had been fired during the incident, prosecutors said, but it was unclear whether the girl had been hit by the bullet.
Gloria Wood, of Park Forest, was visiting her father for the weekend like she often did.
Police captured Larry Wood Wednesday evening when he returned to the motel, in the 1300 block of East Sibley Boulevard, Dolton police spokeswoman TaQuoya Kennedy said.
The married father of eight allegedly told police he was high on marijuana and PCP when he attacked the girl.
He had a firearm in his possession, Scarimbolo said.
Wood has three prior felony convictions and was currently on parole, Scarimbolo said.
