Three men have been charged in connection with the shooting of two women at a birthday party in the Far South Side Hegewisch neighborhood on June 2.
Brothers Brandon Medrano, 18, and Matthew Medrano, 20, both of the 3000 block of East 80th Street were charged June 5 in connection with the shooting, police said. Ventura Lechuga, 20, of the 3500 block of East 95th Street, was charged Thursday.
All three are gang-affiliated and were charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery discharge of a firearm, police said.
The three men showed up uninvited to a birthday party in the 2700 block of East 128th Street late on June 2 and were asked to leave, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The men returned a short time later armed with baseball bats and again were told to leave, Kubiak said.
The men then got into a vehicle about 11:50 p.m. and drove a short way down the block before firing shots in the direction of the party and hitting two women, according to Kubiak.
A 31-year-old woman was shot in the eye and a 46-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, Kubiak said.
Both were taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, Ind., Kubiak said. The 31-year-old was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
