The Affordable Care Act and what it means to Illinois
◆ 144,000 Medicare recipients in Illinois have gotten 50-percent discounts on brand-name drugs for an average savings of $667 per person.
◆ 1.3 million Medicare recipients have used free preventive services offered under the act for things like mammograms, cholesterol screenings and colonoscopies.
◆ 102,000 young adults under 26 have been able to remain on their parents’ health insurance plans.
◆ 2,200 Illinoisans with pre-existing conditions have enrolled in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan program created under the law.
