Retired police sergeant found shot dead in backyard

A retired police sergeant was found fatally shot in the backyard of his west suburban Melrose Park home last week.
A neighbor found retired Melrose Park police Sgt. Ronald Susek, 61, in his backyard in the 1600 block of North 14th Avenue about 6:20 a.m. Thursday, according to a release from Melrose Park police.
He suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., the release said.
An autopsy Friday was inconclusive pending police investigation, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Further details are not immediately known, the release said.
