Severe storms roll through Illinois but spare Chicago

A severe thunderstorm watch that had been in effect until 2 a.m. Sunday in Cook County was lifted shortly before 11 p.m. by the National Weather Service.
But it remained in effect for Kankakee County and two other counties in central Illinois, as well as Lake County in northwest Indiana. The area impacted includes the cities of Kankakee, Gary and Valparaiso.
A small craft advisory remain in effect for the lakefront, including Winthrop Harbor, Wilmette Harbor, Northerly Island, Calumet Harbor and Gary.
Amy Seeley, a meteorologist for the weather service, said reports of hail were coming in early Saturday night in Will and Kankakee counties.
Warnings remained of flash flooding in Kankakee and northwest Indiana.
