A 4-year-old Glenview boy died after he was found unresponsive at a public swimming pool Friday afternoon in north suburb, authorities said.
Vincente Cardenas was found unresponsive at the Glenview Park District’s Roosevelt Pool at 2239 Fir St. by emergency personnel at 2:35, authorities said.
A lifeguard pulled the boy out of the pool, and paramedics took him to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Glenview Police officials said. Vincente was just five days away from his fifth birthday. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled his death a drowning.
Roosevelt Pool closed immediately following the incident and will remain closed Saturday while the Glenview Police Department, in cooperation with the Glenview Park District, completes their investigation.
Glenview Park District Executive Director Chuck Balling offered his condolences to the boy’s family.
“We are all very saddened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to this little boy’s family,” Balling said. “This is a tragedy for the family and for the entire community.”
