An 11-year-old Aurora boy died Sunday after he fell out of a truck while trying to call out to his brother.
William Furukawa fell off a truck driven by his father’s fiancee in the 100 block of Rickard Drive in Oswego, officials said.
William, of the 400 block of West Park Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Park Ridge, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s office said the accident happened around 2:15 p.m., shortly after the truck, with four other children inside, stalled on Rickard just off Route 34.
Three children got out of the truck and a U.S. mail carrier stopped to see if she could help, the sheriff’s office said. But the woman was able to restart the vehicle and told the children to get back in.
William’s 12-year-old brother had already started walking to the woman’s parents’ house, about a quarter-mile away, to let them know they were having problems with the vehicle.
The woman drove slowly toward her parents’ home and William unbuckled his seat belt in the backseat and leaned out of the rear passenger-side window, officials said.
He motioned for his 12-year-old brother to catch up and then fell out of the vehicle, striking his head on the ground, officials said.
