A 77-year-old man died Sunday after he lost consciousness while driving on the Bishop Ford Expressway, authorities said.
Lindzy Greenleaf, of the 500 block of South Yates Avenue in Calumet City, was pronounced dead at Roseland Community Hospital at 12:23 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
A passenger inside the vehicle told investigators that the man experienced an apparent medical problem and began to slump over the steering wheel as he drove northbound on the expressway near 130th Street, according to Illinois State Police.
After the man lost consciousness, the vehicle struck a guardrail on the left and veered to the right and hit another car, State Police said, adding that the car then spun around and drove off the road and into a ditch on the right side of the expressway.
Two people inside the car that was hit were also taken to Roseland Community Hospital for minor injuries, authorities said.
