Two men were killed and three others wounded in a Back of the Yards neighborhood shooting Friday on the South Side.
The five victims were standing outside in the 5100 block of South May Street at 4:43 p.m. when two unknown males approached them on foot and fired shots, police said in a statement.
Two men — ages 26 and 22 — were shot in the chest and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, the statement said.
An 18-year-old man shot in the buttocks and a 24-year-old man shot in the hand were also taken to Stroger, the statement said, adding that both men were in “stable” condition.
Police said someone drove a fifth victim — a 39-year-old man — to Provident Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Authorities originally said that family or bystanders took one of the victims to an area hospital.
Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said shortly after the shooting that paramedics took three men to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where two were pronounced dead.
No one was in custody for the shooting, which is being investigated by Area Central detectives.
