Cop on West Side relieved of duty in jail-sex investigation

A Chicago cop was stripped of his police powers Friday while authorities investigate an allegation that he engaged in a sex act earlier this week with a transvestite man being held in a cell at the Harrison District police station on the West Side, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The officer is being investigated by the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, according to a written statement the department released.
A police spokeswoman would not discuss details of the case or identify the officer, who works in the Harrison District.
The officer has not been charged with any crime, a state’s attorney’s spokeswoman said.
The investigation began after a police official at the Harrison District station was told by a man, dressed as a woman, who was being held in the lockup there that the officer took him to a cell Thursday and had sexual contact with him in the cell, sources told the Sun-Times.
The cell isn’t equipped with a surveillance camera, one source said.
The officer has been stripped of his badge and gun and placed on administrative duty.
