A man died Tuesday night after being shot in the chest and crashing a van into a CTA bus in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood, police said.
The 22-year-old driver was in a van parked in the 6800 block of South Calumet with a 19-year-old man when someone approached them on foot and fired shots about 10:39 p.m., police said. The older man was shot in the chest, and the 19-year-old suffered a graze wound to the chest, police said. The shooting prompted the older man to speed away in the van and hit a nearby Chicago Transit Authority bus, police said.
Paramedics took the two men in the van to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the driver was later pronounced dead, police said.
The CTA bus driver was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said passengers on the bus told authorities they were injured but refused medical treatment. She said she did not know how many people were on the bus at the time of the accident.
