Three suburban teenagers were killed when a semi truck slammed into a car Monday in unincorporated Kendall County, Illinois State Police said.
Killed in the incident were Brian Herrera, 19, of Plainfield; Tyler Montgomery, 19, of Plainfield and Alexis Banuelos, 18, of Naperville.
State Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the driver and two passengers of the car were killed when the car either failed to stop completely at a stop sign on Schlapp Road, or stopped and then rolled forward.
The truck traveling east on Illinois 126 slammed into the black Ford passenger vehicle at Schlapp Road about 3:15 p.m., State Police said.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged and the semi truck, hauling bags of silicon sand, rolled over, police and fire officials said.
The man driving the truck — a Hodgkins resident in his mid-40s — was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The crash happened about seven miles south of Oswego and seven miles west of Plainfield.
