A bid to raise the state’s $99 license plate fee by $2 to help infuse Illinois’ decaying state parks with new revenues narrowly failed in the Illinois House Thursday.
The measure, which needed 60 votes to pass the House, failed by a 58-60 vote, though its sponsor, state Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Grove), kept the legislation alive through a parliamentary maneuver.
Mautino said his bill would provide “stable funding and future growth and potential for the Deparment of Natural Resources, safety for the parks, keeping our parks open [and] economic development.”
