A man was found unresponsive in a South Side police station cell early Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Derrick C. Sellers, 55, was being held at the Grand Crossing District station when he was found unresponsive, the medical examiner’s office said, adding that it is not clear what was wrong with Sellers.
Sellers was discovered unresponsive about 3:09 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines, adding that preliminary information indicates Sellers died of natural causes.
Sellers, of the 6800 block of South Merrill Avenue, was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:24 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
Area Central detectives have begun an investigation, Gaines said.
Further information was not immediately available.
