The police bomb unit is investigating possible explosives inside a Wrigleyville residence.
The police Bomb & Arson Section responded about 2:35 p.m. to a residence in the 900 block of West Newport Avenue to investigate a possible explosive device, said police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety, citing preliminary information.
The building to be evacuated and the bomb unit officers did find a potential explosive, Baety said. A Level 1 hazardous materials incident was initiated about 5 p.m. and the fire department was called, police said.
The incident is about two blocks away from Wrigley Field, where the Cubs were playing the San Diego Padres.
