A Chicago Police sergeant was taken to an area hospital after becoming ill while on duty Tuesday night on the South Side, police said.
The Gresham District sergeant was executing a search warrant with other district officers in the 6400 block of South Normal Avenue when he became ill about 9:20 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
The sergeant is 40 years old and has been with the department for 15 years, Alfaro said.
Paramedics took the sergeant to the University of Chicago Medical Centers, said Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. He declined to comment on the sergeant’s condition.
He did not suffer any physical injuries, a source said.
