Your backyard grill wasn’t the only thing heating up this holiday. Monday’s high temperature hit a sizzling 95 degrees — the hottest Memorial Day ever recorded in the city.
The temperature, recorded at O’Hare, breaks the previous Memorial Day record of 93, set May 30, 1942, and later tied in 1953, according to the National Weather Service.
The high also breaks the daily record for May 28, which was 93 in 1977. Monday also was the second consecutive record-breaking hot day. Sunday’s high was 97 but late Monday, thunderstorms were expected to drop temperatures to the mid-60s, forecasters said. Tuesday’s expected highs: lower 80s.
