Cops: Drunk woman stole ambulance at hospital

A 30-year-old West Side woman was charged with drunken driving after she allegedly stole a Chicago Fire Department ambulance from outside a South Side hospital.

Cassie Weathersby eventually crashed the vehicle into two parked cars in the 6700 block of South Indiana, about a mile from the ER parking area at Saint Bernard Hospital in the 300 block of West 64th.

Weathersby, of the 1600 block of North Mango, was being held after bond was set at $25,000 Monday.

Weathersby also was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license, police said.

Man arrested in
hit-run; girl critical

Police arrested a South Side man for a hit-and-run accident that left a 4-year-old girl in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

Andre Howard, 22, of the 400 block of West 72nd Street, was charged with failure to report an accident with injuries, a felony; driving without insurance, and misdemeanor DUI, police said. He was being held on $200,000 bond Monday.

10 dead, 39 hurt in weekend shootings

Ten people were killed and at least 39 others were wounded in Memorial Day weekend shootings across the city since Friday, including a 7-year-old girl shot while playing in front of her South Side home.

The girl was shot about 4:20 p.m. Saturday when a white four-door car pulled up to a group of boys near the intersection of West 69th and South Artesian, and someone inside opened fire. Police said none of the boys were injured, but a bullet hit the girl.

Those killed over the weekend included:

† Marcus Morgan, 27, died Sunday at 3:20 p.m. after he was shot in the head Friday night in the 5300 block of South Justine.

† Mario Tempana-Vena, 69, and Lorrie Heidrick, 48, were killed Friday night allegedly by their roommate. Michael Myrieckes, 52, of the 6500 block of South Kenwood, was charged with killing the pair with a pistol in a dispute over who would stay in their Woodlawn home, officials said.

† Jaleel Beasley, 19, was shot in the head and stomach in the 2400 block of West Roosevelt, police said. He was pronounced dead at 2:34 a.m. Sunday.

† Jeffrey Triplett, 17, was shot about 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Millard. Triplett was shot in the lower back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died. Another 17-year-old boy was wounded.

† Robert McNear, 35, of the 7100 block of South Eberhart, was dead on the scene at 1:20 a.m. Monday in the 5000 block of South St. Lawrence.

† An unidentified woman was found shot about 5:30 a.m. Monday in an alley in the 3000 block of South Kostner.

† Jaylin Johnson, 18, was shot in the head in the 1100 block of South Normal about 10:40 p.m. Saturday. The victim and a 21-year-old man were wounded while on the sidewalk. Johnson died Monday, and the older man was seriously wounded.

† Marley Collins, 19, was fatally shot in the 1500 block of South Spaulding at
5:36 p.m. Monday.

† A man in his 30s was fatally shot in the head about 10 p.m. Monday in the 1700 block of East 68th.
