A would-be bank robber wearing a construction hat and reflective vest left a Lincoln Park bank branch empty-handed Thursday morning after his demand for cash was not met.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the man walked into the Citibank branch at 2001 N. Halsted St. with a black plastic bag and demanded a teller fill it with cash.

When his verbal demand was not met, the man left the bank, an FBI spokeswoman said.

The man was described as black, about 5-foot-11, wearing sunglasses, an orange construction vest, hard hat and white shirt, according to the FBI.

No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported.

FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said even though the man left the bank without any money, it’s a federal offense to attempt to rob a bank.
