Updated: May 20, 2012 6:28PM

As protesters demonstrate Downtown, a city agency is warning that strong thunderstorms, hail and winds up to 50 miles-per-hour are heading into the area from the west Sunday evening.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications issued a statement saying that severe weather conditions could be hitting the Loop area between 6 to 7 p.m.

Thunderstorms could also be hitting suburbs near the city Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service’s Chicago office, a strong thunderstorm with nickel-sized hail and heavy winds was moving northeast from Schaumburg.

Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Hanover Park, Iverness, Medinah, Streamwood and Arlington Heights could be hit by the storm Sunday evening, the weather services said.
