Two men were killed in a drive-by shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday evening on the South Side.
The men were shot at 4:47 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Hoyne, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.
One man was shot in the head and was dead on the scene, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified him as William S. Herron-Junius, 20, of the 6900 block of South Lowe.
A second man was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said. Lamont Matticx, 20, of the 2100 block of West 54th Place, died at the hospital, the medical examiner’s office said.
Police said the shooting was possibly a drive-by and that Area Central detectives believe the attack is gang-related.
