Former Rep. Debbie Halvorson’s A-plus rating from the National Rifle Association helped her win a conservative congressional district back from the Republicans.
But now that she’s running in a new, more urban district against Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., her pro-gun rights record could hurt her in the Democratic primary.
Jackson released a new ad Friday quoting a South Side mom whose son was shot to death.
“I’m Pam Bosley. My son is dead because he was shot outside of church right before choir rehearsal,” she says on the ad, “Debbie Halvorson sided and voted with the Republicans and the NRA against gun control, against the very laws that might have kept my son alive. President Obama and Congressman Jackson fought them every step of the way.”
Halvorson was not immediately available for comment.
