A student gave birth to a baby Tuesday morning in a bathroom at Streamwood High School, officials said.
School District U46 Safety Coordinator John Heiderscheidt said the girl delivered the baby around 9:45 a.m. He declined to release many details, citing the “confidentiality for the students.”
“The situation occurred very quickly, and it was handled very well,” he said.”
The school went into “medical lockdown” for about 20 minutes at the end of second period, a common procedure”to keep students in classrooms and out of the way of medical personnel entering the building, he said.
Both the girl and the baby were taken to a hospital by 10:30 a.m., and both were doing well, he said.
“We’re surrounding the family with support and whatever they need and whatever mom will need when she comes back to school.”
