Melee ensues at Elgin nightclub after band switch

A Crystal Lake man was taken to a hospital and several other people were injured after what police described as a melee broke out shortly after midnight Sunday at an Elgin nightclub.

Police said the crowd at the La Movida Dance Hall became violent when the scheduled musical group was replaced by a different group. Witnesses told police that as soon as the replacement group took the stage, patrons became upset and hostile toward the band.

A fight started after someone threw a bottle on stage, and patrons rushed up on stage and began attacking band members, throwing objects on and off the stage and at each other.

One man was taken to Sherman Hospital with cuts on his face and head. Several others had minor injuries. No charges were filed.
