Jack Greenberg, former McDonald’s Corp. chairman and CEO, will become the new chairman of the agency that runs Navy Pier and the McCormick Place convention center, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Pat Quinn’s offices confirmed Friday.

Also, Jim Reilly, who now serves as a trustee of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, known as McPier, is expected to be named chief executive officer to run day-to-day operations, sources said.

The eight-member McPier board will be entirely revamped, with Emanuel and Quinn each expected to name four appointees, including Greenberg, as early as next week, sources said.

The current chairman of the board is David Mosena, and the CEO’s post has been vacant since Juan Ochoa resigned in May 2010.

Greenberg, who retired from McDonald’s in 2002, was known for cutting headquarters staff in the company’s first layoffs, rolling out a made-to-order cooking system that expanded McDonald’s menu offerings and expanding the Golden Arches restaurants by more than 30 percent during his tenure.

Reilly has led the agency’s efforts to reform labor rules in the increasingly competitive convention center industry.
