Man critically injured in Grand Crossing vehicle fire

Firefighters rescued a man from a burning vehicle Wednesday night in the in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood.
When crews arrived about 9:30 p.m., they found the vehicle in the 7800 block of South Kenwood Avenue already burning, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
A 43-year-old man inside was trapped on the passenger side vehicle, and crews were able to pull him out to safety, Greer said.
He suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Police think the car’s engine may have caught fire, although the official cause has not yet been determined, Greer said.
