ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A spokesman says Canadian National Railway is reviewing recommendations stemming from an investigation of a deadly 2009 train derailment and explosion in northern Illinois.
The National Transportation Safety Board met Tuesday in Washington to adopt a final report on the derailment in Cherry Valley. A Rockford woman died as she tried to flee the derailment and explosion of tank cars carrying flammable ethanol.
The board determined the derailment was caused by a washout of track and the failure to notify the train in time.
Canadian National Railway Co. spokesman Patrick Waldron Co. says the railroad already has changed the way it handles weather warnings and emergency calls, and is reviewing other recommendations.
The company agreed in October to pay $36.2 million to the family of the Rockford woman who died.
