A 2-year-old girl has been upgraded to serious condition after a dresser with a TV on it fell on her in her South Side Hamilton Park home.
The state Department of Children and Family Services, in addition to Chicago police, are investigating.
The girl’s mother found her daughter under the dresser about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at their home in the 1300 block of West 76th Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The girl was taken in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago.
As of about 11 a.m. Thursday, the girl’s condition had been upgraded to serious, a hospital spokeswoman said.
DCFS is investigating allegations of neglect in connection with the incident, agency spokesman Kendall Marlowe said. One other child in the home has been placed in the care of relatives, he said. The agency has had no prior contact with the family.
