Three people were killed and four were critically injured within in crashes that occurred within 90 minutes on Chicago’s roads overnight.
A man was killed and two others were critically injured early Thursday in a crash on the border of Chicago and southwest suburban Summit.
The accident happened at 63rd Street and Harlem Avenue about 3:23 a.m., when a 38-year-old man ran a red light and struck another vehicle in the intersection, officials said.
The man was dead at the scene and two other men were injured.
The two men were taken in critical condition — one to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and the other to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Summit Fire Lt. Eric Antrobus said. A third man refused treatment.
The man killed was not being identified early Thursday pending family notification.
About 30 minutes earlier, two pedestrians, a man and a woman, were killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Far South Side.
The two were walking south across 95th Street near Cottage Grove Avenue about 2:50 a.m. when they were struck by a Nissan passenger car, police said.
The man, described as being in his 50s and 60s, and the woman, in her 40s or 50s, were dead on the scene, police said.
The driver did not stop after he hit them, but was caught and arrested nearby at 94th Street and Champlain Avenue, Greer said.
The man and woman killed have not been identified as of Thursday morning.
About 2 a.m., a woman driving a red Nissan was traveling north on the southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive when she struck a white Toyota Corolla and a van going the right way near Roosevelt Road, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The woman, her adult male passenger and the woman driving the Corolla were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospita, Greer said. The driver of the van refused medical treatment.
A fire department spokesman said two people were taken from the scene in serious-to-critical condition and one was taken in fair-to-serious condition.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit and area detectives are investigating all three accidents.
