All CTA train lines are running normally again Thursday morning after a Red Line train derailed overnight in the Roosevelt station in the South Loop.
Red Line trains returned to normal operation about 6:40 a.m., according to the website. Orange and Green lines were also running normally after some earlier delays.
The delays stemmed from a “minor derailment” in the Red Line subway about 2:10 a.m. in the 1100 block of South State Street.
There was light smoke in the subway after something made contact with the third rail, Fire Media Affairs said. Two people were taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center after breathing a small amount of smoke that aggravated their asthma.
CTA spokeswoman Molly Sullivan confirmed there was a “minor derailment” of a train in the Roosevelt station about 2:10 a.m., and riders were able to exit the train from the rear car. She described the injuries of the two people taken to the hospital as “very minor.”
Power was temporarly cut in both directions between the Fullerton and 35th Street stations, and buses were being used to shuttle riders between those stops, Sullivan said.
