Fog advisory issued for west, south suburbs
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE February 2, 2012 7:38AM
Dense fog moving through some parts of metropolitan Chicago early Thursday is creating slick roadways and limited visibilities for motorists, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas west and south of the city are seeing the thickest fog as of early Thursday, according to the weather service. Kane, Kendall and Will counties are all under a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m.
Visibilities in these areas may be as little as a quarter-mile, and fog could freeze into slick patches on roadways as temperatures hover just below freezing, forecasters said.
Cook, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois as well as Lake and Porter counties in Indiana will experience only patchy fog and visibilities around a half-mile, forecaster said.
Drivers should allow extra time, leave more following distance and take special caution at uncontrolled intersections and rail crossings.
