A 19-year-old man stopped for a curfew violation will appear in bond court later Tuesday after he allegedly fought with police and shot one with the officer’s own Taser.
Dashawn James, 19, first tried to run when police stopped him about 10:40 p.m. Sunday near his home in the 6500 block of South California for an apparent curfew violation, according to police.
But James allegedly became combative and wrangled a Taser away from one of the officers during the fight, police said. He fired it, striking one officer before police arrested him.
Both officers involved were treated and released from an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
James was charged Monday night with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, three counts of resisting arrest, one count of disarming a police officer and misdemeanor obstructing identification, according to police.
He will appear in bond court later Tuesday, police said.
