Where some Chicago residents saw Gerrymandered new ward boundaries, IIT architecture student Andrew Bayley saw the makings of a beautiful jigsaw puzzle.
Using his laser cutter and some Baltic Burch plywood, Bayley, 32, created a puzzle that fits together some pretty crazy-looking puzzle pieces — especially the new 2nd Ward, moved from the South Side to the North Side and given jagged block-by-blog edges that took a while to cut, Bayley said.
“That’s the most ridiculous-looking one,” Bayley said, adding of the new wards; contorted shapes: “It’s pretty blatant that their goal was to take care of themselves.”
Bayley grew to love Chicago’s geography in three years as a bike messenger. He does not plan to mass-produce puzzles for sale, he said.
