Woman dies after being struck by car in Elgin

(ELGIN) A 40-year-old woman died Sunday night after a car hit her as she crossed the street in northwest suburban Elgin.
The accident happened in the 400 block of Summit Street in Elgin, according to a release from the city.
Authorities received reports of the crash about 6:10 p.m., and the Elgin Fire Department responded to the scene, the release said.
Summit Street was closed for nearly three hours as Elgin police investigated the accident, the release said. The street has since been reopened, but police continue to investigate.
This was not a hit-and-run and alcohol was not involved, according to the release.
The woman’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.
