Police in Key West have identified a body found floating near a pier as that of a 65-year-old Rogers Park man who’d been reported missing by his family early this month. The Monroe County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office says John Hanson apparently drowned, though they don’t know the circumstances. They don’t suspect foul play. He was found in the water off Key West’s White Street Pier with no identification on Jan. 13. Hanson’s family told the Chicago police they last saw him Jan. 9 as he left his home in the 6400 block of North Glenwood Avenue for work nearby. They later received a package that had been sent from Key West with Hanson’s wallet, identification and other personal items. They contacted the Key West police, who put them in touch with the Monroe County medical examiner’s office and were able to positively identify Hanson.
