Protesters yell at mayor
Protesters temporarily shouted down Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Saturday, calling for him to keep 12 mental health clinics open as he spoke about a plan to keep Chicago libraries operating on Monday afternoons. The demonstrators yelled and held up posters criticizing budget cut proposals as Emanuel spoke at the West Pullman Library, 830 W. 119th St. After one protester shouted about “putting them out on the streets,” an irritated mayor said: “Yeah. You got it. Not a problem.” He accepted a report from the group but did not meet with them, as they had demanded.
Snowmobiler killed
A Lake County man died Friday night after crashing a snowmobile in a Wauconda forest preserve. The 39-year-old Volo resident was snowmobiling off a marked trail in the Lakewood Forest Preserve when he struck a cable gate, according to a statement from John Tannahill, Lake County Forest Preserves Chief of Ranger police. The man was wearing a helmet, authorities said.
Hit-run victim dies
A man struck by a hit-and-run driver in the West Side Garfield Park neighborhood has died. Daryl Lincoln, 54, was hit while crossing the street at 4:28 p.m. Jan. 9 in the 2900 block of West Jackson, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy showed he died of multiple injuries. A dark-color minivan, possibly a Chrysler, struck him and fled west on Jackson, police said.
