Commuters on the CTA’s Yellow and Purple lines were met with delays and reroutes Friday morning.
The Yellow Line, which runs between Skokie and the Howard Street station, had “switching issues” caused by equipment problems, which led to delays between about 5 and 6 a.m. Friday, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said. The delays were cleared up by about 6:15 a.m., she said. These problems were not weather-related, she said.
On the Purple Line, which runs between Evanston and the Loop, signal trouble at Lake and Wells meant trains had to be rerouted “to the outer Loop,” Hosinski said.
The Purple Line was still experiencing “minor delays” as of about 10 a.m., according to a customer alert from the CTA. Commuters were being advised to expect delays and board all Purple Line Express trains on the outer platforms at all Loop stations.
What caused the Purple Line problems were as yet undetermined as of about 10 a.m., Hosinski said, as personnel were working to fix the signal problems and get commuters to their destinations.
