AAA awarded its prestigious “Five Diamond Award” — its highest rating for restaurants — for 2012 on Friday to five Chicago restaurants: Alinea, Arun’s, Charlie Trotter’s, Everest and Tru. That tied Chicago with New York among North American cities with the most restaurants getting the group’s top rating.
AAA says it makes unannounced visits to check out restaurants before deciding on the ratings.
The restaurant with the longest-running Five Diamond status is The Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Va. It’s been on the list for 24 years.
Charlie Trotter’s, 816 W. Armitage, first won its Five Diamond rating from AAA in 1994. Everest, 440 S. LaSalle, was first honored in 1996; Arun’s, 4156 N. Kedzie, in 2002; Tru, 686 N .St. Clair, in 2002; and Alinea, 1723 N. Halsted, in 2006.
