Girl, 4, killed when television falls on her

Updated: February 17, 2012 8:22AM

A 4-year-old girl died Sunday after a television fell on her head at her south suburban University Park home.

Gianna Hadjis was pronounced dead at 2:54 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner’s office.

University Park Police Chief Mel Davis said the girl’s death from the box-style TV “appeared to be a horrible accident.”

Adults were present at the time of the incident, Davis said.

Gianna is the third child killed by a falling television in the Chicago area in the past three months. Karl Clermont, 6, died Oct. 30 when a TV fell on him in Arlington Heights and Shaniya Singleton, 3, was killed Nov. 8 when a one fell on her at her home in the 7800 block of South Union in Chicago.
