Two men were killed and four others critically injured when the sport-utility vehicle they were in rolled over after the driver rammed another SUV off a street in Little Village road early Saturday.
A 1994 Chevrolet Suburban with the six men inside was attempting to intentionally ram a 2004 Ford Expedition off the road when it rolled over at 3:35 a.m. near South Archer and West 37th, Chicago Police spokesman Daniel O’Brien said.
Omar Vargas, 19, of the 5400 block of South Fairfield, and Artemio Silva, 20, of 2300 block of West 23rd, were killed in the crash, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Autopsies are scheduled for Sunday.
Four other men were taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the fire department.
At least five ambulances responded to the scene of the crash, which was so violent that it knocked over several trees near the roadway.
The crash scene was secured about 4 a.m., the fire department said. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the crash as an aggravated battery, but no charges have been filed as of Saturday evening.
